Hello all,

he long range shanghai weather is occasional thunderstorms, mostly in
afternoon, good thing eclipse is in AM. Good news is no hanging front or
typhoon seems in the forecast now we are getting close. Note, in low 90's
every day, leave your winter coats home.

Of even greater interest to me is the Solar weather.. we have been without
sunspots for over 2 years, though this past monday finally a sunspot, which
I imaged.
(if you want to see that sunspot taken by me on July 6, here is a link
posted on atmob site:

http://www.atmob.org/gallery/showimage.php?id=1153

Today that sunspot has rotated to the edge of the sun producing a
prominence, here is an image from soho:

http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/data/realtime/eit_304/512/

the sunspot is under the prominence in the lower right.

the sun is still very quiet, and here is a soho image taken today from the
soho satellite with occulting disk (you can do this from space, not earth),
showing a 'relaxed" corona.

I suspect the sun corona will look similer to this, no other sunspots have
so far appeared. (but much brighter, and live!)
i will check later in week and send out again, to get a "sneak" preview of
what to expect from the sun.
Some of you (like Joel) leave this weekend, most, like me and bernie leave
next weekend. Looking forward to seeing everyone next weekend, in Shanghai
!!
