If you want some really dark skies, visit the park mentioned in the
article: Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario, Canada. It is a huge natural
reserve about 3/4 the size of Massachusetts located about 5 hours north of
Toronto (12 hours from here; go to Montreal, bang a left and go another 6
hours). The only electric lights in the area is along the one highway that
traverses the park, beyond that it is only camp fires, oil lamps and
flashlights. The Toronto Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society in
Toronto meets there every September for its "Annual Algonquin Adenture."
This year the dates are September 26-28. My annual trip out there is in
August, but its more for camping and visiting friends. The skies are
amazing though, Milky Way from horizon to horizon.
