Solar Community saddened by loss of former DayStar owner, Del Woods 

A friend to Solar Astronomy around the world was lost when Del Woods died on Tuesday, May 13th.
 
The former owner of DayStar filters and the designer of the solid spaced etalon narrow bandpass technology.  He manufactured tens of thousands of filters over a career of over 40 years, 30 of which at DayStar.  Filters made by him flew on the Space Shuttle and on Voyager 1 and 2, which are today headed out of our solar system. 

He retired in February of 2006 when he sold the company to new owners, Vic & Jen Winter after suffering serious illness in 2005.  Since that time, he had enjoyed a number of years of happy retirement with his wife and family. Our new owners had the pleasure of getting to know him while consulting and sharing his knowledge of solar astronomy since that time.
  
Del earned the respect and friendship of his associates over the decades and will be dearly missed by many.
