Peter,
Oh m'gosh ! Fromm the pictures, Alan has gotten
much older too.
In July, 1969, five of us ATMoB members got press
passes as photographers for Apollo 11 and drove down
to the Cape. We were there several days before the
launch, taking shots in the VAB and the training
facilities. We got permission to go see the LEM
simulator but were asked too leave our cameras
behind as several astronauts were training for the
next missions and we were to respect their privacy.
Sure enough, Mike Mattei blurted out " Look, Alan
Bean has a huge hole in his sock !".
It would have been fun to show that forbidden image
last night. The astronauts did not wear boots or
shoes during most training to prevent damage to the
delicate simulator gear. Apparently, he caught the
sock on a protrusion but continued his training
schedule.
NASA was very generous in those days and we could
have flown over to Houston or out to the Pacific to
observe the A11 landing but none of us could afford
the airfare or the time.

Hi, all-
Last night's talk by Capt. Bean was VERY
interesting! He briefly reviewed the Apollo 11 &
12 missions from training to splashdown, the
teamwork that it took to get there & back safely,
as well as what it meant to him personnally to be
the 4th man to walk on the Moon!
Here's a link to a few pics that I took:

Thanks again to Noreen at the MoS for giving us
the inside scoop on it!
Regards,
+Peter+
