Hello all,
We had another energy committee meeting tonight in Gloucester. Topic
was brainstorming on energy cutting ideas. Restraints was the city
states it is broke, no new capital projects. so..
I thank Bernie Kosicki for showing the way as he did in Acton MA.
I suggested we have a meeting with National Grid (who rents lights to
Gloucester). I suggested we see about a sit down with them, see what
especially energy inefficient lighting we have, and ask if they will
change them out to full cut-offs, lower energy lighting.
(EG the mercury lights along the harbor waterfront walk). The idea is
they put up new lights at no cost to city, continue to bill the city at
the current rate of electric use, but actually using less electricity.
They pocket the difference until the cost of replacement is paid off.
Doesn't cost the city anything, they look good to the state for energy
savings, continue to make their usual profit. Eventually, when paid off
(few years) the savings get passed on to the city. A win-win for all.
We will see where this goes, but a great idea, thanks again to Bernie
Kosicki from Acton. This is the way to get things done.
Mario
