George,
The astronomy club sounds great!
Yes, a scheduled visit is best. With that many guests you should first
check with the clubhouse committee. There may be other events going on such
as a seminar, training, new moon observing, members doing astrophotography
etc.. As Gary mentioned, there is a star party in Chelmsford this Saturday
with a cloud date of Sunday. It is open to the public and might be a good
introduction for your students.
As far as the use of club telescopes, training and instruction is available
to members on certain telescopes. We are in the process of establishing a
loaner program protocol for members. So at this point, I would say no, your
students are not eligible to borrow a telescope. However, they are welcome
to come observe at the clubhouse.
