[Atmob-discuss] comet Holmes even larger, in color with jet

Hi, all,

You can learn more about Comet Holmes’ orbit – and even view it in 3-D from
different angles – at the JPL Small-Body Database Browser:

http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sstr=17P%2FHolmes;orb=1;cov=0;log=0#phys_pa
r

Here’s some summary information about Holmes that I’ve figured using that
site:

Period around the Sun: 6.88 years

Orbital Inclination: 19°

Last perihelion passage: May 4, 2007 (2.053 AU from Sun)

Nearest to Earth this orbit: November 6, 2007 (1.62 AU)

Next aphelion: October 13, 2010 (5.182 AU from Sun)

Next perihelion: March 21, 2014 (2.053 AU from Sun)

Maybe we don’t know WHAT this comet is going to do next, but we do know
WHERE it’s going to do it. (Note that, until Nov. 6, Earth is catching up to
the comet, so that’s it’s actually “getting closer”, even though it’s
receding from the Sun. Weird
)

Stupid question, I have been out of the loop for quite a bit... Has the
trajectory of the comet been calculated? I would imagine so.
