So now that we know of all these antiques, just what was your address again?

Subject: [Atmob-discuss] Comet Holmes

"Wow!" is the operative word here!

I took my home-built 5-inch RFT refractor (circa 1972) out onto the deck
here in Beautiful Midtown Clinton about 7:30 of the clock, and found the
comet immediately, naked eye. I confirmed it with my WWII surplus Sard
7x50s, and then looked at it with my refractor, using an Orion DeepView 35mm
2" eyepiece that I purchased 2 years ago and had never taken out of the box.
It provided me with an 18x view that was spectacular. Then I unearthed my 16
power WWII surplus U.S. Navy Quartermaster Spyglass, which I purchased in
1955, set it on a tripod, and trained it on the comet. Beautiful!

Tomorrow night, if it's still clear, I'll put the 1 1/4" adapter back in my
refractor, and try out my complement of Tele Vue and Meade Plossls on the
comet. I've been extremely inactive in observing for the last few years, so
I hope I can be forgiven for a brief observing orgy. My lack of exposure to
the sky at home is enough to make a strong man cry, but this comet is
perfectly placed for me.

Of course, after I win the quadrazillion dollars in the lottery, I'll build
a house and observatory that will make Mario hang his head in shame.
