Mario,
The contrast enhanced image sure looks to me like a
fragment has broken away from the nucleus, but it
could have been a spurt of material that is
separating. Since we are looking tail end-on, there
has to be a lot of distortion in its appearance.  I
wonder if the Sunday Globe or NY Times mentions it
?  Of course it is being eclipsed by those fabulous
Red Sox  !
