[Atmob-discuss] Friday morning Mars

Friday morning had some of the best seeing conditions we've had around here in quite a while, and the transparency was pretty good too! That's a combination we don't get too often, as our best seeing usually tends to be during hazy conditions.

I took several videos of Mars with my C11, and the best result is here:

In the past, most of my planet images were presented south up to match the view in an inverting telescope, as that's been the traditional way of presenting planetary drawings and photos for many years. However recently with my Mercury and Venus images I've been presenting them with north up:

And I'm now doing this with the current apparition of Mars. In the past I've presented some rotational animations with north up as the planet's rotational movement looked better to me that way, so now the other images will match <g>. I'll eventually present all of my planetary images this way.

I've also decided not to boost the color saturation of my planet images as much as I have in the past. For several years I had been following the mainstream imagers tendency to oversaturate color to help enhance minor details--- but I find if you know what to look for, you'll see it anyway ;-)
