I knew there was a reason to hate refractors!
Seriously, though, if this is true, looking at the universe could have caused any outcome. Someone had to do it eventually and the result could have been accelerating expansion or not. Also there are other many models of the universe that agree with the quantum mechanics formulas and don't require any observers. I prefer the many-worlds interpretation which would imply there are some universes which are expanding faster and some that are slowing down.
