OK Kelly, even with an early spring cold I was inspired by your message to 
participate, and Townsend Mass. came in at mag 5 (would be better with a 
constellation near the zenith).

today is the last official day for collecting limiting-magnitude 
observations for GLOBE at Night. just two years old, this project is rapidly 
becoming critically important in developing worldwide public awareness of 
light pollution and, more generally, the joy of stargazing.

yet, as of last check, very few observations had been submitted from New 
England. so, since tonight promises to be decently clear and not too cold, 
*please* take 15 minutes to step into your backyard, get dark adapted, and 
then estimate how many stars you can see in Orion. for details and reporting 
instructions, go to www.globe.gov/gan
