Hi Mike,
#1 No, an IR blocking filter will not work the same as an energy
rejection filter. Never use a Daystar filter without an ERF!
#2 In my application I use the IR filter mounted on the front end
of the Barlow used to achieve an F30 focal ratio. The reason I use an IR
filter is to protect the Daystar filter from degradation from the IR part of
the spectrum. Over time the blocking filter in the Daystar filter will need
to be replaced if not protected from IR. My understanding is that starting
about five years ago Daystar began incorporating an IR rejection to protect
the filters so an external IR filter was no longer necessary.

solar filter with an IR Blocking filter?and has asked me some questions as
to it's use which I cannot answer because I've never used one. If someone
could answer these questions I would appreciate it and will pass the
response along.
