David: On a $10 modified achromat, I could be adventurous. But on a $45 
Plossl, I think I'll avoid the fun.

Paul: Two questions. Would it make sense to alternate with a dry swab 
to soak up the moistened material? Should I follow up with the acetone 
immediately after the initial cleaning, or can I wait a few hours?

Thanks for your replies, guys, I'll let you know how it goes. And I'll 
try not to take up smoking or fire eating while the acetone is out.
