I would not recommend a beginner taking apart the EP, although that might be the best solution.

If it is really sugar, just moisten a Q-Tip and gently swab a small area. Filtered water preferred. Keep doing this a small area at a time start at the edge, and then continue from the center and work a bit at a time to the perimeter. I would not hesitate to use dozens to effect this preliminary cleaning. 

Don't soak the surface, it is bound to run the sticky mess in and around the lens elements. 

Finally, to complete the job, swabs or lens tissue dipped into acetone from a hardware store ( CAREFUL- very flammable).  If that doesn't do it see an experienced optician at the clubhouse.
