Bern,
Does the Rebel XT fit into your description of a "lightweight DSLR"? It is still a farely hefty load for a small telescope/ mount. In addition to the G11 mount, most of the Orion and Vixen mounts can be used provided that guiding is employed to correct for drive errors.

Al Takeda mentioned a critical feature that I forgot to mention - the ability to download "RAW" files so that Flats and Darks can be utilized for noise reduction and instrument defects such as dust specks and vignetting.

I have been very happy with the Canon internal image processing but it has limitations. The images can be downloaded from the camera or memory chip as .CRW format files - Canon's own version of the Raw format.
