[ATMoB-discuss] DSLR able to be used for astrophotography

I'm a beginner at deep-sky digital astrophotography and got a Canon Digital
Rebel XT a few months ago. Without extensive experience, I can say it seems
really good, easy to use, etc. There is a bulb setting, and the shutter can
be held open with a cable-release type device that connects to the camera
(there is also a remote version that I have not bought). On my first night
out a few months ago I took some 1-2 minute unguided (but tracked) exposures
of M13, M57, and M31 at prime focus through an 8-inch Celestron SCT. One of
the M31 shots showed some spiral structure and I was very pleased. I'm
still learning about image processing but it looks very promising. I have
read that this and other digital SLRs are insensitive in red so not great
for emission nebulas.
