Don't forget that lasers are sometimes used on gunsights. Maybe that's
why they are so upset about lasers illuminating aircraft.

I wonder if the law only applies to illumination by laser. Clearly
there's lots of bad lighting out there (such as from car dealerships)
that illuminate aircraft all the time. If the law is not limited to
illumination by laser, this might be an interesting way of legally
fighting light pollution.
