NASA is encouraging amateur astronomers to observe tomorrow's lunar eclipse and look for lunar meteoroid bursts. These sporadic flashes of light on the lunar surface are associated with Helion meteors, a variety of meteor believed to come from ancient sungrazing comets that left trails of debris in the vicinity of the sun. The Earth, Moon, Sun orientation during the eclipse is apparently the perfect geometry for intercepting and observing Helion meteoroids.
