There is an interesting article in the May-June issue of _American
Scientist_ on liquid mirror telescopes and in particular the Large
Zenith Telescope in British Columbia (Canada) with a 6 meter (236 inch)
liquid mercury primary mirror. The article is also available on-line at
http://www.americanscientist.org/template/AssetDetail/assetid/55126?fulltext=true
Note that the on-line article is segmented into 4 web pages. Although
I found the whole article interesting, those you who are interested in
the details of the scope's construction, but don't want to wade through
all 4 web pages of text might want to skip ahead to the 4th page at
http://www.americanscientist.org/template/AssetDetail/assetid/55126/page/4
and read from the heading "Nuts and Bolts of the LZT" on down. If
you're interested in this stuff, it's worth also clicking on the
little images in that section to bring up larger versions of them.
