Dave,
I can confirm your observations although I didn't see them, myself.
Eileen Myers and John Briggs/Family were guests at Stellafane. After the STM meeting at 9PM, the winds died out and members saw quite a few Orionids. John's son said he saw one that was as bright as a bolide and another that was visible for 3/4 of the way across the sky.
I was inside the Porter Turret and, of course, saw none!
I was learning to use the setting circles and heard several oh's and ah's.
The meteors clearly died out by 1 AM as did many observers. I stayed up until Orion and M42 cleared the trees to the east and hit the sack at 1:30AM.
We had seen M13, but could not find the Veil. M11, M15, M57, M56, M31,M32,and M110 followed in slow succession as we found a large amount of backlash in the drive. This consumed a lot of time that I had not experienced two years ago while photographing Mars.
