Yes, Ted, planetariums are a vital part of astronomy education.
I remember going to BMOS in the 9th grade to view a
presentation on the long defunct Spitz portable. It helped me
realize that I needed to learn many more constellations.

I just found out that the Burlington Education Foundation has
received a StarLab from LTI and just recently a webcam and
laptop for the C-8 at the high school. 

I regard such facilities as ideal methods of fostering serious
interest by students in Math and Science. They need not be an
educational frill.
