[ATMoB-discuss] Emailing Monthly Newsletter

Just a thought, since I have not seen this approach mentioned is could
the author of the newsletter save as an HTML file and simply place this
in a location on the web site?
This would eliminate any concern for direct user download, delivery of
the newsletter or any reliance on a 3rd party such as Adobe.

Something that I think would be useful would be a small text-only
e-mail message announcing the next meeting with information about the
talk or the speaker. This way people who can't or don't want to
download a massive PDF can still find out about the meeting.

In general I think e-mailing a link to the newsletter rather than
e-mailing the newsletter as an attachment is a good idea. I guess
there could be some people who have e-mail access without full-blown
Internet access (such as at some workplaces) where this could be a
problem, though.

As far as the size of the newsletter, I still think it's important to
keep the newsletter small enough such that most members will be willing
and able to download it. Putting the newsletter on a web site rather
than as an e-mail attachment should not be an excuse to make the
newsletter an order of magnitude larger -- few dialup users will want
to wait half an hour to download a 10 MB newsletter.
