First of all - for 4X6 I have found that if the image is of exceptional 
quality, 800 pixels wide is enough for super sharp prints meaning 
when I sent 3000 pixels wide, the picture quality was no better 
when I got it back from Shutterfly.  600 pixels wide had reduced 
quality.  Therefore you should have at least 1600 pixels wide and 
it shouldn't be even slightly blurry at that resolution or you should 
consider going higher resolution.  DON'T USE A MERE 1280 
PIXEL WIDE PICTURE.

That being said, there's an 18,000 pixel wide picture (yes I'm not 
kidding! 18 thousand!) of the Orion Nebula that is just stunning here:
