[ATMoB-discuss] JMI Wheely Bar question

I have the JMI with the hard wheels. They have leveler bolts/legs to make
it "permanent" and raise it up off the wheels once you reach your
destination.

I have a 12" LX200GPS that I wheel out of the garage, down the driveway to
the end of cul-de-sac about 300 ft. It works great. It is much faster
since I don't have to assemble/disassemble each time. This setup seems just
as rugged as my heavy duty tripod. The tripod mounts in holes in the JMI
wheelie bars which are rectangular stock.

One down side is that it makes the telescope higher. Peterson Engineering
has a kit that will shorten the legs of the heavy duty tripod for the LX200
12". http://www.petersonengineering.com/sky/tripod_shrinkit.htm $49.99 The
other benefit of doing this is that you can then use the less expensive
smaller model of the JMI Wheelie Bars when you have the heavy duty tripod
like mine.

My whole trip is on asphalt. I have no experience with the large tires.

I haven't done astrophotography yet. The leveler bolts have a rubber cap on
them for asphalt. You can install the included large washers on the leveler
bolts if you set up on soft ground. I bought mine a couple of years ago.

Subject: [ATMoB-discuss] JMI Wheely Bar question

Since it was brought up, Does anyone have direct
experience with this product? I'm interested in the
stability required for astro-imaging and wonder if a
mount attached to big puffy tires will fair well.

Thanks,

Tom
