Bill,
To which field are referring? Over by the pink clubhouse and Porter Turret??
If so, I'd say no way, unless you plan on being with it pretty continuously.
For me, my typical plan is to set up a scope next to my tent. I camp in
Sue's Field, near the new pavilion. A number of ATMoBers camp along there,
and a number camp out back in Houston's Hollow under the trees. It's a mixed
bag.
New for this year, I am told they cleared some land by the Shuppmann scope
for camping. That's higher up and ought to be good for observing as well.
At night you'll find people here, there and everywhere! Some folks stay in
the camping area going scope-to-scope. Others go up the hill, observe there
and then come back to their tents and observe more.
Hope to see you there,
Peter Bealo

Subject: [Atmob-club] Stellafane newbie question
I have a Stellafane newbie question. (I've only been once--and that
was a day trip.) I'm planning on camping and have a Kendrick
Observer's Tent, so I was wondering if it was better to set up my
scope in my tent rather than at the telescope field. I'm bringing
commercial scopes (a C8 and an 4" APO) on a commercial mount (G-11),
so it's not like they're going to need to be there for competition. On
the other hand, if everyone is up on the field, shouldn't I be? And
does anyone ever have problems leaving their scopes up on the field?
Thanks,
Bill
