The Earth Hour 2008 - LIGHTS OUT! event has been added to the web site.
Location: Boston  or Cambridge - TBA
Date: Saturday, Mar 29, 2008 at 8:00 PM
Date: March 29th
Time: 8-9pm
This March 29th we have an opportunity to promote awareness of light pollution and astronomy as folks around the globe turn off lights for Earth Hour 2008. www.earthhour.org This date also marks the start of National Dark Sky Week www.ndsw.org

While the thrust behind Earth Hour is to focus attention on energy waste and global warming - it is also an opportunity for those of us who value the night sky to bring attention to the ill effects of energy waste/light pollution on our night sky. An improperly shielded energy-efficient bulb is still a light polluter and degrades our night sky/natural environment.

As a component of Earth Hour here in the Boston area, Kelly Beatty hopes to have a public star party in Boston or Cambridge that night. If anyone is interested in participating, please take a minute to sign up for the event on the website star party calendar. It would be helpful if Kelly was able to tell the city officials in advance that we could deliver on a star party if one was desired.
