Forwarded email: Request for volunteers
Perhaps you have heard about the Cambridge Science Festival that will be taking place from April 26 through May 4, and perhaps you have even wondered how you might participate. Well, here's your chance!
For the second year in a row, members of the Science Education Department, the Chandra Education and Public Outreach group, and the EPO group from the MIT Kavli Institute are jointly hosting a "Cambridge Explores the Universe" event here at the CfA as part of the Festival. We had great turnout last year, and we need YOUR help to keep the momentum going!
The event, which runs from noon to 4:00 on Sunday, May 4, will feature a museum-like environment with a number of "Exploration Stations" that showcase current research in astronomy and astrophysics, and science education programs and activities from the SED, Chandra, MKI, and the IIC. Stations will include live demonstrations, a children's corner, interactive multimedia exhibits, hands-on activities, telescope tours, and opportunities to "be an astronomer." Participants will make their own astronomical observations, both live and via remotely operated telescopes, and be able to speak with MKI and CfA scientists. Science education resources for students, teachers, and families will also be highlighted.
We're looking for additional volunteers to help with the following:
-- set-up and cleanup;
-- staffing activity stations;
-- admitting guests via Meet and Greet table;
-- "ask an astronomer" stations;
-- monitoring resource table;
-- "floaters" to help guide visitors, troubleshoot
If you are interested in joining us, here is what to do:
